Submission Guidelines for Bead Unique™

Editorial Guidelines:

When submitting ideas or concepts:

  • Include thoughts or inspiration for idea(s).
  • Engage the reader. What could be said about the technique or project to excite and inspire?
  • Know the market and trends. Bead Unique projects are just that…UNIQUE!
When submitting an original design, please include the following:
  • Your name, address, phone number, and e-mail.
  • Clear photo or detailed sketch. Digital submissions (300 dpi JPEG) may be sent to the editor.
  • Brief description of the project, materials, colors, and techniques used.
  • Indicate if there are alternative finishing methods.
  • Color or fabric swatches, if applicable.
Submissions should include:
  • Beginner to advanced skill levels.
  • Originality of design and use of materials.
  • Techniques used to complete the project.
  • Indicate if project would need photography to illustrate step-by-step instructions or pattern.
Bead Unique prefers original designs, but will discuss alternative arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
Instructions must be sent on disk with hard copy or via e-mail.

Accepted projects will include:
  • Separate document with designer’s name, address, shipping address, phone, and e-mail.
  • Complete and detailed materials list (including brand names, registered trademark symbols, and product numbers, if applicable).
  • Instructions must be written in 12pt Times Roman font without bullets, indents, or formatting. An instruction template will be supplied for your convenience.
  • Brief descriptive paragraph of project technique and inspiration (2–3 sentences only).
  • Difficulty level of project: Introductory/Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.
  • Estimated time to finish project, including drying or finishing times.
  • Finished size(s) of completed project(s), if applicable.
  • Any tips or helpful hints on assembling the project and/or care of the finished piece.
  • Sources for specific products (including company name, phone number, and website).
  • Original full-size color patterns, diagrams, and/or charts, if applicable.
  • If artist is supplying step-by-step photos, the artist must consult with the editor regarding the backgrounds used in the photos. Step-by-step photos provided by the artist must be sent using FTP or on CD-ROM, or Zip disc when possible rather than as e-mail attachments. For Digital settings: Use a 3.3 megapixel or better camera, at least 300 dpi resolution, highest quality (fine) JPEG setting or save as a tiff with LZW compression. Do not correct image color or manipulate data. If the publisher will be taking the step-by-step photos, the artist must supply and label the steps thoroughly.
  • Manuscript of no more than 5 pages or 1500 words.
  • One portrait photograph of artist and brief bio. Keep in mind the feel of the magazine is a warm, cozy and friendly one.
